Dear WhateverWeFeelLikeBlogging readers,
Argentine tango is a favorite of mine. I usually do standard or international style ballroom tango in competitions, but I do the Argentine for fun. The Argentine originated in Argentina, and it is similar to ballroom tango, however, the steps in the Argentine tango travel more in a circular motion. It is believed that this dance came about because during a time in Argentina when dancing was prohibited, people who attended pub-like restaurants would dance tango around the tables. Anyone who has danced tango would find it quite hard to navigate around tables while moving in the generally straight line of tango. Argentinians thus developed a more flirty, agile derivation of the tango. Argentine tango has the same severeness of ballroom tango, but with a playful twist. A few of my favorite figures in this dance are, ganchos (leg hooks), ochos (figure-eights), and quebradas (breaks). Argentine tango is completely unique and is filled with drama.
xoxo,
