Your New Hairstyle-Spring 2011

For the new season-why not try a new hairstyle? Get rid of that drab winter hair and go for something new, fresh, and fabulous! Here are some ideas:

Side Bangs- If you're looking for a new style, but not necessarily a dramatic cut, go for side bangs. They frame your face at an angle & give you a fresh style without cutting much.

Blunt Bangs- Blunt bangs are chic, bold & easy. Some things to consider before: 1). if you don't wash & style accordingly, bangs can appear greasy or stringy. 2). People who do sports, be aware. Bangs are not ideal for super-active sports that involve sweat & messy buns! 3). You've got to regularly get bang-trims, to keep them looking fresh. Btw, I'm considering this one for myself!

Short, Sleek Bob- This is a great look if you want hair that is easy to take care of, volumized, and, well, springy! Bobs look mod and feel light on your shoulders. (Great for hot weather!)

Long Locks- You don't have to chop off your hair for it to look fabulous-why not keep it long? If your hair is really thick & heavy like mine, ask your stylist to cut your hair at an angle, (not layered, just angled), for a lighter look.

Pixie- Why not switch things up? If you're feeling courageous & spunky, get a pixie cut! You just roll out of bed, no brush needed + you look completely adorable.

Beachy- Hey it's spring, let your hair just be effortless! A"beachy" hairstyle would mean letting your hair air-dry after washing, remain natural texture (waves & all!), & take a break from styling tools and products. Basically, this is hippie hair!

Ciao bella! Hola guapa! Bonjour belle!

I cannot tell you enough how important it is to love ourselves--flaws and all! There may be something about our bodies we can't stand, like the bump on our nose, or our lanky legs or our flat or big chest. Then when we go outside we feel like we're under a microscope, and everyone can see that flaw. Like the fabulous Lady GaGa says, baby we were born this way! Truth be told, there are things we can do to change ourselves, like extreme fasting-diets, plastic surgeries & implants. But honestly, we've got to love who we are! We are all beautiful! If you have a beautiful personality & confidence, that internal beauty exudes onto the outside--and people notice that! I know this sounds cheesy, but before you leave the house, stop & look into the mirror. Tell yourself, I am beautiful. Give yourself a little pep-talk if you're feeling down! Btw, that little microscope we feel like we're under, should be forgotten:)

Cute Flats For Spring

Now, I know that while heels are cute and fun- you can't wear them all the time! Here are some shoes from Coach that are comfy, cute, and will brighten up your day!

These adorable flats add a pop of color to your outfit, while remaining completely comfortable! Personally, I love coach shoes because they fit all feet types (long or short, narrow or wide), and while they can be pricey, they last ages!

If you favor simpler colors in your wardrobe, like navy blues and tans, then these are perfect for you! Their woven base creates a beachy look, while the denim material complements any outfit.

Make your outfit more sophisticated by giving it a british feel with these snakeskin flats. They look amazing with darker denim washes, or shorter khaki shorts!

Flatter Yourself- The Perfect Pair of Shorts

Whether you're on the east or the west coast, you have one thing in common- you'll look fantastic in these ASOS shorts!
I love them for a few different reasons-
1. Their dark wash is always flattering, you can't go wrong with it
2. They fray out at the edges-it's subtle, but it makes your legs look a little more slender
3. They can be paired with any top, shoe, or belt
4. Though they're short, that can elongate your legs, especially if you wear small heels with them
Now obviously, everyone is built differently, but that's what makes us all beautiful!
Remember- rock whatever outfit you're wearing, whether it's sweat pants or short shorts, and know that you are gorgeous!

The Continental Braid

Show season is upon us! Equestrian show season, that is:) For most of us, we've got to have our horses looking their absolute best in shows, and this means bathing, clipping, grooming, spraying, and, who could forget- braiding! Now for me, until recently I hated braiding my pony. He's an arab, and I absolutely hate to arab-braid! (It's required for Arabians in most professional shows.) However, that all changed when today, as I was surfing the web, I discovered the continental braid! It's a super pretty, super easy way to braid your horse's mane, and, it's accepted for arabs! Shown below are:
Left- First step to continental braid.
Middle- Continental Braid (simplest design).
Right- Diamond braid (variation of continental)
My life has just been made so, so much easier:)

Song of the Week- 'Marry You' by Bruno Mars

Just like the title says- this weeks song of the week is Marry You by Bruno Mars! I chose this song for a few reasons:
1. Bruno Mars is the best! He's fresh, talented, and it shows in his songs!
2. The lyrics are amazing! Take the chorus for example- the first few lines of it are "Cause' it's a beautiful night, we're looking for something dumb to do, hey baby, I think I wanna marry you..." THis song is one that I haven't heard a million other contemporary artists singing about before. I mean, sure, you hear a lot of older country singers crooning about marriage, but Bruno Mars gives the topic a new spin because his voice is more current.
3. The rhythm changes a lot. In some songs, this can throw everything off track, but in Marry You, it works with it well, and adds some more interest to the track.

Congrats Bruno:)

BuzzWorthy Beauty: revolutionary nails

Do these nails look cool, or what?!  As soon as I saw an ad for Sally Hansen Salon Effects, I had to get some. I am so over painstakingly painting my nails but then always messing up royally by either spilling the polish, accidentally smooshing the polish on my nails because I don't have the patience for dry-time, getting it all over my hands, etc. But with these, you just pick a hot pattern, peel and apply! Honestly, I can't get over this: it completely cuts out the process of painting your nails, it doesn't require a trip to the salon, and its not nearly as expensive as fake nails, + the patterns are so unique & fabulous!

Song of the Week- Rolling in the Deep by Adele

As you can tell by the title, this week's song of the week is Rolling in the Deep by Adele. I love this song for a couple of different reasons-
1. Adele has a great voice, and it's showcased in this song.
2. The melody in this song is fantastic-it's extremely catchy!
This song has been on constant loop on my iPod-I can't stop listening to it!

Empty My Purse: DancingPrincess

My over-sized hobo bag is an essential of mine and I end up stuffing loads of stuff into it. Embarrassing as it may be, I'm going to empty my bag of all its contents and tell you what's in it:
Dancing shoes- When I'm rushing to dance class I have to quickly throw my ballroom or latin heels into my bag and run.

Blistex- I cannot stand dry lips!

L'occitane hand cream tubes- I'm a serious freak about dry hands--I hate it! I always just stick a tube into my bag because they're easy to pack and smell good.

Books- no matter where I'm going, I need a book or two to bring with. & I highly recommend these two books, I just finished them, they're so good!

Mints- pet peeve: yucky breath! Fresh breath is a must & I personally like mints better than gum. Btw, I love this flavor!

Makeup bag- I cram all my essentials into this Vera Bradley makeup bag.

Hairbrush- my secret weapon that proves to be a lifesaver!

Mythology of the Month: The Apple of Discord

As you know, I love mythology, it's juicy & full of enticing twists and turns like your favorite soap opera. Here's a story that you're bound to love: a story about how the goddess of discord, Eris, in my opinion, started the Trojan War. Well, let me back up a little. It all started when the invites were going out to all the gods & goddesses for the wedding of Peleus and Thetis. Zeus invited everyone, except the goddess of discord, Eris. I mean, I don't blame him. Who wants a goddess who's just going to start disagreements at a wedding? During the wedding, Eris tried to sneak in. When no one would let her in, she used a golden apple and engraved "to the fairest" on it, and threw it into the wedding. When the goddesses saw the apple roll in, they fought over it, all claiming that they were the fairest. Three goddesses in particular, Hera, Aphrodite and Athena, wanted the apple. They asked Zeus to whom it should go to. Zeus understandably didn't want to pick favorites and upset any of them, so he decided to pass the judgement onto Paris, a prince from Troy, who happened to be a sheep herder at the time. In order to sway Paris's decision, each goddess promised Paris a unique prize if he picked her. Hera promised superiority over all mortals. Athena promised that she would make him a victorious warrior and hero for Troy. Aphrodite promised him the most beautiful woman in the world: Helen (who at the time was married to King Menelaus of Mycenaean, but this didn't seem to matter to Aphrodite), and her hand in marriage. Paris chose Aphrodite's offer which led to the beginning of the Trojan War. I'll tell you more later, lol.

What's the difference between waltz and Viennese waltz?

I love waltz! Those of you who aren't familiar with the dance, there are two main types danced in competitions.

Waltz- a ballroom style dance, that is danced in 3/4 time. The word waltz actually comes from a German word that means "glide," which is exactly what it looks like when you dance it. Dancing waltz should look like you're floating on a cloud, if you're doing it right, lol. When dancing waltz, you move across the dance floor, A LOT. Let me tell you from first hand experience, waltz should not be danced in a crowded space, (that is, unless you want to get stepped on.) The waltz originated in Vienna, Austria. The waltz we know today is actually not what the people in Vienna know it as. The waltz is also called "English waltz," or "slow waltz." Fun fact: waltz was considered scandalous back in the days when it first started. (Can you imagine what those people would think if they went out to a modern-day club??)

Viennese waltz- is the original waltz from Austria. The Viennese waltz is A LOT faster than waltz and often at times is hard to keep up with! (Believe me, you're left out of breath by the time the song ends!) In general, for competitions, Viennese waltz routines are easier than waltz routines but they're extremely fast, and often repeat steps in a constant loop. So for competitions, Viennese waltz steps may be easier, (in general), but it is definitely more difficult to dance.

Bluefly-The Ultimate Hookup For The Fashion-Obsessed

Do you have an addiction to designer brands? Love designers like Miu Miu, Gucci, and Ella Moss? I do, but there's only one problem- they can be super-expensive. Usually, what I have to do is accent with a designer piece, like wearing a non-designer shirt with a BCBGMAXAZARIA skirt. But then my friend showed me bluefly. It's a website where you can get designer clothing that's current (not last season) for up to 40% off! When they have sales, which is almost everyday, you can save even more on your clothing. In December when they had this amazing sweater sale, I got an Autumn Cashmere sweater (normally around $215) for $100 dollars! They've just gotten a fresh shipment of spring-wear, and it's fantastic! Only problem I had with bluefly- their website sometimes crashes (it's rare, but it does occur), so make sure to write down what you  plan to buy j.i.c. (just in case).

I heart this Alexander McQueen Tee With Their Signature Skull!

happy shopping:)

3 food swaps

A trick I've learned to healthy eating is making food swaps. Contrary to popular belief, you can eat healthy stuff that is just like your favorite junk food, without sacrificing taste. Follow these tricks and you'll be a sneaky food swapper just like me, and love it!

vs.

Why?- this is a no-brainer. Newman-O's are the healthy substitute. They're natural & organic and taste the same.

vs.
Why?- Sprite is just empty calories & sugar. Personally, I prefer Pellegrino any day. It's sparkling, has a great fruity flavor and is completely natural!
vs.
Why?- Potato chips are super greasy and full of sodium & calories. I LOVE veggie straws. You may think, "ew," but seriously, these are so satisfying and tasty. They don't really taste like veggies. They're healthy, (actually full of vegetables!), all natural, and trust me, delicious!

Looks I Love #1

This look is from Anthropologie's Spring 2011 collection (it's found on pg. 37 of their March issue). To me, this look speaks of warm spring/summer days spent somewhere tropical- like Hawaii or Bermuda. (Btw, I love the backdrop for this shot. Winter, why won't you just go away??)
