Piercings: Hot or Not

A pierced ear is common, even for guys. Many people even get multiple ear piercings ranging from cartilage rings to tragus piercings to gauges. The ear is not the only common place for piercing: some people get nose studs and rings, naval, lip, eyebrow and even tongue piercings. But how far is too far? It's definitely a personal choice, and people are free to get however many or however few piercing they like, but is there a point at which it just becomes downright gross? You're at risk for infection when you get pierced, especially in sensitive areas like the tongue and belly button. During pregnancy, naval piercings stretch out and put you at a higher risk for infection. If you're thinking about getting a piercing, make sure you go to a salon that's clean and reliable & be sure to follow all of their instructions on caring for your piercing. At home piercings should not be done: they're unsanitary and put you at a higher risk for infection!

Comment your opinions on whether you think they're are hot or not--and to what extent!

Song of the Week: I Like It Like That- Hot Chelle Rae

Last week, I made a post about a song called Glad You Came, and my predictions are becoming true, as it is slowly but steadily climbing higher on the billboard charts:) I'm going to try my luck again, and predict that I Like it Like That by Hot Chelle Rae will be a hit by mid-December. I love this song because it has a catchy chorus, great vocals, and clever lyrics. What do you think? Check it out here on youtube!

Splurge of the Month- Carriere Freres Candles

Candles are an obsession of mine, I'm always looking for good smelling ones. I'm picky about my scents though, I don't like anything to synthetic smelling or harsh. I have yet to find one Carriere Freres candle that I think is to perfumey.  All of their candles smell great, and have many subtle notes of flowers that combine to make a sensational scents. The con, however is that they're pretty expensive. One candle cost's about $45.00 (about 29 pounds). All in all, though, I think that they're great to splurge on, and they last forever (each candle burns for about 50 hours). My favorite scents are Jasmininum Officinale (Jasmine), Lonicera Fragrantissima (Honey Suckle), and Lilium Regale (Royal Lily).

Nail Polish...Without The Harmful Chemicals!

Who doesn't love getting a cute manicure? There are so many cool & creative things you can do with your nails. What most people don't realize is that most nail polishes contain dangerous carcinogenic(are believed to cause cancer) chemicals, like DBP, toluene, and formaldehyde. When I heard this I vowed never to use nail polish again. I couldn't handle it! I missed having my nails bright fuschia, or mint green, lavender, glittering blue--you name it! I later stumbled upon the solution. There are certain brands out there that are DBP, toluene, and formaldehyde free! I recommend Karma Organic, Nubar Polish, and Essie (these are all clickable links!) which is found in most salons. And don't worry, you're not sacrificing anything by using these brands--the colors are fabulous! I also recommend using Karma Organic nail polish remover--it doesn't have all of the nasty chemicals that the usual acetone remover contains. (P.S. All of the cute nail polish colors to the left can be found on Karma Organic!)

Eat What You Want This Holiday Season!

Whenever I hear advice about food swaps during Thanksgiving, I ignore them completely. Don't get me wrong--I'm all for healthy alternatives! But, in my opinion, Thanksgiving is that day where its okay to pig out! The holidays are definitely a time of serious eating. My advice is to eat healthy during the time leading up to holidays, but don't stress during the actual holiday. Relax, and enjoy yourself...it's definitely no fun to be worried about what you should and shouldn't eat when everyone is having a great time. Although, I  do recommend hitting the gym more than ever, during the holiday season. Try to get a vigorous cardio workout at least 3 times a week.

Song of the Week: Glad You Came- The Wanted

I'm always listening to my ipod, and I'm always looking for new music. Anytime I hear a good song on the radio, it's stuck in my head for a week. That's where I heard this song. Glad You Came is a catchy pop song with an infectious melody that you'll be humming along to for days. My prediction? This song will be a hit before the month is over. Check it out on youtube and see if you like it!

Deciphering the Runways- Winter 2011 Style

All over the runways, thousands of outfits have been paraded across the catwalk. Here's what'll be big this winter:

Color- Normally, for colder seasons, designers prefer to use darker colors, such as grey and black. This winter, vivid colors will be showcased in daring combinations.

40's Elegance- Elegance never really goes out of style, but this year it's playing a major role in fashion's line up. Fashion repeats itself!

Midi and Maxi skirts- No, I didn't make a typo, a midi skirt is the term for a middle length skirt. Midi and Maxi skirts this season are a seriously hot trend, so it's time to ditch the mini skirts you were planning to pair with leggings for winter, and go get some of these instead:)

Midi's

Maxi's

Chunky Knit Sweaters- Winter is a cold season, so it's no surprise that designers have included these warm but still fashionable pieces into their wardrobes.

Pleats and Frills- This is the romantic statement this season, perfect for keeping a bit of fun femininity in your wardrobe.

Prints- By far the biggest, most prominent trend this winter is prints. Designers are offering everything from flowers to polka dots to broken glass, and even feathers and panthers.

Also big this winter are Zoological styles, layered looks, and bold statement coats.

A Note on Fur
Winters arrival brings out a lot of fur on the runways. Increasingly, many designers are switching to faux fur, in order to prevent cruelty to animals who have to die so that the fur can be obtained. Though the no-fur campaign is gaining momentum throughout the fashion world, still only 1/3 of high fashion designers use faux fur instead of real fur. Fur should stay on animals, not on people's backs. Next time you reach for that fur coat that caught your eye on the rack, think about the animal that had to die so that coat could be made. Switch to faux fur, and look stylish while feeling confident that your outfit is 100% cruelty free. High fashion doesn't always mean fur- Stella McCartney doesn't use any leather or fur in any of her design's.

BuzzWorthy Beauty: Duwop Lip Venom

Want fuller-looking lips? Say hello to Lip Venom! This stuff works like magic, temporarily plumping up your pout with just a swipe of some gloss! Lip Venom comes in a cute pink tube and smells like bubble gum. But we warned--this stuff stings! The way it works is it increasing circulation in lips with slightly irritating them with flavors like ginger and cinnamon. I have to admit, this stuff is a little uncomfortable! This spicy gloss tingles your lips, but don't freak out--it's not supposed to cause you pain, just a spicy & tingly feeling on your lips. Well, does it work? I've used it a couple of times and it does give lips a rosy hue and a slight fullness (don't worry it does not make your lips puff up like you've had collagen injections!!). I like it and I'm totally not bothered by the stinging, but it's up to you if its worth it or not! Click 2 Buy.
